Conroe TX
November 2018
Conroe Tx was our first stop, that we spent an extended amount of time at, that was not out in the middle of nowhere! We were about an hour from Downtown Houston. We ventured into Houston a couple of times to enjoy some of the more common attractions, but spent most of 2 weeks at the campgound hanging out and meeting some new friends!
Our first stop in Houston was to the Houston Zoo. We went the day before Thanksgiving! I would have never thought we would be going anywhere that close to a holiday. Normally, I would have been working a ton of hours getting ready for Black Friday. I would have been making sure everyone knew what they were doing and that everything was prepared and ready for the crazy evening. I would have prob been stressing about if all of the items would make it to the store before the next day, so that we wouldn't have to make adjustments. Never would I have been in a ZOO!!! (Well lets be honest, it is a zoo, or circus, but a different kind! This one included real animals.)
Anyway!!! The kids had a great time of course. This is the first time that we have been to a zoo where there were zoo keepers out all over the park talking about the animals. We were able to listen in on talks about the Tigers and Gorillas, but passed by several more. Kenzie is all about the Gorillas and Monkeys. Cooper's favorite was the Tiger.
We also went to the Children's Museum of Houston. This place was crazy! They had more things for our aged kids then any of the places that we have been so far. They made a city inside the Museum where the kids worked to make money, which they then deposited into their bank accounts, and withdrew money to pay for things! They had everything- Bank, TV Studio, Vet, Grocery Store, Restaurant, and Civil Services building. Then once we spent 3 hours in just this part of the Museum, we ventured to the rest, which included a ropes course (Coop said it was his fav part), How things Work Lab, and much more! We spent almost 5 hours in the place, and could have spent many more. I wish we would have went sooner in our time there because we prob would have went back a second time.
We tried something different for Thanksgiving this year. Beside going to the campground meal and potluck, we fixed our own little meal! All made on the Green Mountain Grill!! Cornish Game Hens, Sweet Pot Casserole, and Green Bean Casserole. To top it off a chocolate chip cheese cake! I think this may become a tradition for us. Kenzie has quickly became my cooking assistant!
The camp ground that we stayed at was Lake Conroe Thousand Trails. This is rated one of the best Thousand Trails campgrounds and we could see why. This is a newer park and they are already adding on. When we first pulled in, we thought that we would not like it because it looked like there were a ton of people stacked on top of each other. Once we got into the camp ground we were able to find a spot that had some good room behind it which made it very nice. The bathhouse and other buildings were nice also, but they needed a bit better day to day cleaning.
