This Winter
Hello All
Its been a bit since I have posted anything on here. It's because we haven't been doing too many exciting things! Our main focus has been hiding from the cold weather. We have been pretty successful so far (fingers crossed it continues). We have until the middle of March here in Texas before we head back home for a few weeks (spending time between KS and MO). We are hoping all the crazy winter weather is gone by then.
So what have we been up to and where have we been?? We have been in Southern Texas. We have been about an hour to an hour and a half from San Antonio and Corpus Christi, in a small oil town. Derek has been working for a oil pipeline company as a Gate Guard, which means he was working 10-12 hours a day. So the kids and I got to hang out around the camper and the camp ground all day. We got very lucky to find a great camp ground where we have met some really good people! The camp ground Owners are awesome and along with some new friends that found their way here also. They all made our long days at the camp ground more enjoyable! Our nightly campfires were awesome too!
Derek was able to make some new friends also! They all my have been of the 4 legged kind (except his pet bird), but they are who he talked to most during the day. Sorry his phone camera sucks!!! (Yep he refuses to switch to an Iphone!)
We were able to spend sometime on Derek's 1 day off a week in San Antonio and Corpus Christi.
We enjoyed a couple trips to Padre Island National Seashore, including watching the sunset there on New Year's Eve. The kids were able to see the Ocean for the first time and play on the beach.
We went to the kids museum in San Antonio, DoSeum. Honestly it was a little disappointing, but not horrible. There were a lot of the displays that were not working or were not staffed, because it was a Sunday. They also did not have near as many exhibits that the other places we have been to have had. To go along with it, this was the first of the ASTC membership museums that only honored 3 people for the free admission, so we had to pay to get in. Which would not have been a big deal, I think, if everything had been working.
The campground
So we stayed at the Gilmore Heritage RV Park in Three Rivers, TX. This place has been nice. If you have ever been in this area (South Texas) you prob know that most of the campgrounds around here are basically fields that have had elec, sewer, and water hook ups thrown in. This place is not one of those! It is a true RV park, with a laundry area and play ground (this mama would not have made it the past couple of months without those 2 things!). The only draw back (which is everywhere here) is the mud (i don't know that you can even call it mud! Its like a clay, mud, sand nasty mess!). It sticks to every thing and when it rains everything is a mess. But the current owners (they have only owned the place for about a year) are working on fixing that by redoing the roads and sites (which would put them far above everyone else around here). But the kids really enjoyed being able to play in muddy puddles EVERY time it rained.
