Geocaching
I was reading a post on Facebook the other day where people were talking about Geocaching. I had not even heard that word in prob 4 years- last time being when one of my associates, at work, filled us in on it because did it all the time. Some of the people on the post brought up how their kids do it as part of their Homeschooling curriculum, and how much their kids love it. So... I downloaded the app! Here around our campground in Jasper, Tx there are a ton! Today we decided why not go give it a try. Of course we picked a cold and rainy day, but hey why not?!?! We did 3 super easy ones today and it was pretty cool. Here are some pictures of the kids (don't mind Derek in the background!). Coop was not so into it at first because his socks were getting wet, but then he go into it. Kenzie was super excited! Now they can't wait to do more. Next time we will come prepared with items to trade!
So what is Geocaching?
It is basically modern day treasure hunting. People use GPS to find containers that have been hidden by other people all over the world. These containers can hold anything, from log books to tradable items. Anyone can add anything to the cache to have something for the next person to take with them. The rule is if you take something, you leave something of equal or more value. The geocaching app gives you the specific coordinates that the cache is hidden, and if the owner is nice some clues about where it is hidden there. This is a great way to get everyone outside and adventuring!
